Discharging these pollutants into surrounding water bodies can cause damage to aquatic ecosystems and threatens the health of the local population. Treatment of wastewater requires vast lagoons equipped with considerable amounts of aeration equipment. Supplementing the oxygen requirements in the lagoon via conventional technologies requires bulky equipment within an already crowded space. Fuel Tech’s portfolio of technologies is designed to help improve boiler efficiencies, optimize wastewater treatment and control air emissions.
PAPER & PULP
Reducing air emissions and minimizing the cost of treating wastewater
Every process within the paper mill requires energy and vast amounts of water, which generates wastewater often high in biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total suspended solids (TSS).
Selective Non-Catalytic NOx Reduction (SNCR) Technology
Our NOxOUT® SNCR technology is designed to cost-effectively reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) from stationary combustion sources. This intelligent, in-furnace technology uses multiple levels of injection of stabilized urea liquor into the optimal temperature zones inside a furnace or boiler, to optimize the reduction of nitrogen oxides. SNCR can be used by utilities firing coal, oil or natural gas, and by waste-to-energy and biomass applications.
Performance
- 25 – 50% NOx Reduction
- NOx outlet emissions of 0.10lb/MMBtu or below
Features:
- Injection of aqueous urea or aqueous ammonia
- Multiple nozzle lances for large furnace applications
- Combined injection strategy to control ammonia slip
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Technology
SCR is a post-flue gas treatment technology designed to dramatically reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from a wide variety of boiler types. Fuel Tech combines extensive design experience with a real-life understanding of plant operations, to maximize performance and minimize the impact on energy production. SCR is used on coal, biomass, oil, natural and waste gases, municipal and hazardous waste.
Benefits:
- Guaranteed NOx reduction performance
- Proven expertise to optimize existing SCR systems using flow modeling, flow control devices and ammonia injection grid modifications
- Dramatically improving efficiency using CFD modeling
ULTRA® Urea Thermal Decomposition Technology
The ULTRA process safely generates high-quality, diluted ammonia for SCR systems and flue gas conditioning applications, by thermally decomposing urea. This ensures a safe, reliable source of ammonia that can be instantly generated onsite when needed. ULTRA can utilize electric heaters, natural gas burners, external flue gas heat exchangers, or the direct use of flue gas as the heat source.
Benefits:
- Capacity of 1.0 to 1,300lbs per hour of ammonia supply
- ULTRA can utilize urea solution concentrations of 32% to 55% by weight and varying levels of urea quality
- Eliminates the risks associated with the transport of storage of hazardous ammonia
- Experience on over 350 applications worldwide
DGI® Dissolved Gas Infusion
DGI combines best-on-the-market oxygen transfer efficiency with precision accuracy, to deliver an energy-efficient and cost-effective solution for use in water and wastewater treatment systems. This cutting-edge technology achieves rates of 99+% gas transfer by pre-dissolving high purity gas in a separate pressurized slipstream using a plunging jet saturator. The slipstream can reach up to 900mg/l oxygen concentration; it is then added to the main volume of water and diluted to meet precise specifications.
Benefits:
- Effective, flexible and environmentally friendly
- DGI combines a patented infusion vessel and patent-pending injector array to ensure effective dissolved oxygen (DO) delivery
- Highest oxygen transfer efficiency available on the market
Chemical Technologies
Our chemical technologies improve boiler efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by controlling slagging, fouling and corrosion, along with reducing hazardous air pollutants including mercury, acid emissions, and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) formation.
Benefits:
- Increases profits by enabling plants to reduce the quality of fuel required
- Helps increase reliability and reduces boiler de-rate outages
- Creates energy efficiency gains and heat rate improvements
- Reduced maintenance costs for slag removal
