Fuel Tech’s NOxOUT® SNCR technology is a world-leading solution engineered to cost-effectively remove nitrogen oxide from stationary combustion sources. This advanced in-furnace technology employs a multi-level, automated system that injects urea into the optimal temperature zones of a furnace or boiler, ensuring maximum reduction of nitrogen oxide. Our SNCR technology is deployed on installations globally, across a diverse range of applications including coal, oil, natural gas, waste-to-energy and biomass.

  • 25-50% nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction
  • Injection of aqueous urea or aqueous ammonia
  • Multiple nozzle lances for large furnace applications
  • Combined injection strategy to control ammonia slip
  • Over 630 installations worldwide

Fuel Tech’s SNCR systems use CFD models and chemical kinetics modeling to optimize outcomes. Our NOxOUT SNCR technology is sufficiently flexible to apply to a variety of commercial and process combustion units. A key advantage of our NOxOUT systems is the way they can easily be integrated with other nitrogen oxides reduction technologies.

Fuel Tech’s NOxOUT process meets Best Available Control Technology (BACT) compliance requirements for municipal solid waste combustors, as well as coal-fired Independent Power Producer (IPP), and fluidized bed boilers. The SNCR process has also been used to comply with Reasonably Available Control Technology (RACT) requirements in ozone non-attainment areas and administrative compliance orders in specific locales.

Our comprehensive range of nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction technologies, covering both combustion and post-combustion processes, offers seamlessly integrated systems, with minimal operational disruption and optimized cost-efficiency. Fuel Tech’s I-NOx® Integrated NOx reduction technologies can be applied as a retrofit solution for existing units or may be incorporated into compliance plans for a greenfield application. Combinations that have been retrofit with the NOxOUT process are low nitrogen oxides burners, over-fire air, combustion tempering, neural network controls, and gas reburn systems. Our installations have delivered exceptional results for our clients, achieving NOx reductions of over 80% in some cases. The wide range of capabilities we offer allows us to approach each application as a solutions provider rather than an equipment supplier, ensuring effective NOx control from combustion to stack.
